O’Neill to Liverpool – It’s so obvious

So Kenny has left. What now for Liverpool? The short list of potential new managers for the club apparently includes Andre VIllas-Boas, Roberto Di Matteo and Brendan Rodgers of Swansea City. Ex boss Rafa Benitez has even been mentioned.

It’s almost as if the owners of Liverpool want to take their club further into the mire. Because surely all of the above represent a gamble to varying degrees.

If only soccersweep could make the decisions things would be so much better! Because to us, it is achingly apparent that the only man to take Liverpool forward in a meaningful way is Martin O’Neill.

We have long promoted him as the best man to manage Liverpool and we have suffered fierce resistance in our suggestion from many fans of the club who think that he doesn’t have the pedigree to coach a top team. But the man is a football genius.

We at soccersweep simply hope that he does get the job so that, in 6-9 months time we can gleefully remind you doubters how wrong you were. For us, O’Neill is the only man who can affect a real renaissance at the club and take them back to the top. The Irishman is anything but a gamble.

Make no mistake, Martin O’Neill is the best man for Liverpool now.

I agree. He has done great job at Leicester, Aston Villa and Celtic. He is a top manager with Premier League experience. He should be looked at seriously by the Anfield bosses.

The short list should really be as follows:
Q: has this candidate won the domestic league championship Y/N
Q: has this candidate had hands on experience leading his team within a European cup competition Y/N
Q: has this candidate featured in an end of season relegation battle Y/N
Q: what skills do you posess to win over the millions of fans across the world and more importantly the 45,000 who come and devote their time to thir idols week in week out?

These are my questions as its Vital the FSG owners do not make one almighty error of judgement, as next time their investment will turn sour.

Why not cut to the chase…enjoy the ride and get that little Portugeuse man from Real Madrid… I mean if the Spanish economy is going up the creek then he might as well come to the UK!

What has Martin O’Neill done at Sunderland of note? After the initial surge in form when he arrived, much like what happened at Liverpool when Dalglish took over, what has he done that has been so special as to warrant him taking over at Liverpool? In the last 10 games Sunderland won 1, and drew 5. That’s even worse form than Liverpool, and that’s saying something. The great motivator couldn’t get Sunderland playing. He’s unpredictable, and Liverpool need stability.

I don’t know who I want for Liverpool, but O’Neill is not in my thinking. Hopefully he’s not in the Liverpool’s owners thinking either.

I agree I’m Irish and a Liverpool fan did amazing things with Celtic and Sunderland and Aston Villa were well on their way before he was let go. With the quality and resources at Liverpool he could make them a top 4 team again, he’s clearly not put off by big histories as his time with Celtic and as for big rivalries I’m not sure it gets anymore tense then a Celtic/Rangers game.

When Mr. Dalglish was first appointed last season it was pointed out that he was not up to date with modern techniques in footb all. I believe that a european coach would be a better signing at this point in time,

    ALLEVERPOOL.

At least 70% of LFC recognise Benitez as a top manager,we need him to come back! Forget Martin O’Neill,he’s not good enough for LFC! If Benitez gets the correct backing he will succeed.

Ask Fungusface Ferguson and you will realise that he is afraid of Benitez coming back to Anfield!

“At least 70% of LFC recognise Benitez as a top manager,we need him to come back!” Really? Where’s that?

Benitez’s time has passed. He wants too much control at a club, and these owners are not going to let that happen, getting rid of Dalglish has proved they don’t want a manager to have too much power and influence.

As for O’Neill, he won with Celtic, in a two team league, he got got one of those teams to beat the other. He did well with Leicester, but Villa and Sunderland, what’s he done? 🙁

Benitez would have had control of signings just the same as the man LFC have taken on(bredon Rodgers).By the way ,who at a football club should have more control over fooball matters more than the manager? The answer is —NO ONE !
