Liverpool to hijack Arsenal striker move?

A number of recent reports suggest that Arsenal are lining up a summer move for Cologne striker Lukas Podolski. The player himself has refused to quash suggestions that he may move on from his beloved team in the summer, due to the flailing status of the club.

Arsenal may well run the rule over the player but surely he would be perfect for goal shy Liverpool? Noone doubts the quality of Luis Suarez but he is obviously more of a number 10, a creator, than a 30 goal a season man.

Podolski isn’t an out and out striker either and can operate on the wing or behind the front man, as well as up top. But, ‘out and out strikers’ seem to be going a little out of fashion in the modern game anyway. What Liverpool, and any top team needs, is a pool of offensive players who can all do the damage. Currently the Anfield team don’t have enough of these.

With 16 goals in 22 games for club and 43 strikes in 95 appearances for the German national team, Podolski has proven himself time and again in terms of his own ability to inflict pain on the opposition.

I think that he would be the perfect addition to the Liverpool squad, not just because of his versatility but also because his physique suggests he could more than hold his own in The Premier League. At 26 he is already a seasoned pro and could give The Reds six or seven years of quality service.

Have a look at some of his best bits and make your on mind up about the lad. The new improved Dirk perhaps?

No, not the new Dirk Kyut. Podolski lack Dirk’s big-game temperament, courage and lion’s heart!
