Oh to have Chelsea’s money. Virtually every club in Europe would love to have the transfer kitty of the Stamford Bridge outfit.
While most clubs look for one major signing each year Chelsea always seem have cash in the bank for three or four. This summer, they acquired Samuel Eto’o, Willian and Marco Van Ginkel – but the spending doesn’t look as if it’ll stop there.
We reckon Chelsea will be in the market for a left back, another midfielder and a striker, before too long.
A Report in the Guardian today suggests that Chelsea are looking to sign a young French midfielder. They say:
Chelsea want to spend £25m on Marseille’s hot-headed defensive midfielder Giannelli Imbula, who was recently sent home from the France Under-21 squad for saying “something inappropriate”.
Some of the best players in the world are ‘hot-heads’ and Jose Mourinho has never been scared to employ one if he thinks he can get the best out of him.
At just 21 years of age this guy has already got a decent amount of experience. He has only played for Marseille eight times but, prior to that, he made over 100 appearances for Guincamp in the French league.
He does score the odd goal and is quite an adventurous type when he wants to be. But he is known more as a defensive midfielder with serious strength and endurance – exactly the sort of player that the Chelsea boss likes.
Let’s have a look at young man in action and you fans can decide whether he would fit into the midfield. Is this guy the natural heir to Essien, Mikel and Ramires? Dare we even chuck Makelele in the reference pot?
