When the shocking news of Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement hit the press, thoughts immediately turned to who could possibly fill the boots of the man who had re-built a sleeping giant from scratch.
Jose Mourinho has been linked with Manchester United for years but he represents the champagne option or short term fix. While he may bring the good times and a huge party to Manchester United in the shorter term, he may well leave everyone at Old Trafford with a huge hangover and the place in tatters. David Moyes, on the other hand, represents the perfect club-builder to proliferate the Fergie legacy at Manchester United. While Mourinho mainly concerns himself with the first team, the zeitgeist, Moyes would maintain the club from top to bottom in the same impeccable and meticulous way that Ferguson has over the decades. As referee Graham Poll said on Talksport yesterday,
‘Manchester United is all about Manchester United. Mourinho is all about Mourinho.’
We will stick our necks out here and say that Moyes will be a huge success at Old Trafford, not only taking the team forward domestically but perhaps taking Barca’s place as the kings of Europe. As far back as last September soccersweep wrote an article about how Moyes was the only coach worth considering as Fergie’s successor. The comments below the story reflect how fans felt then and how some still feel about the probable appointment. But those who are concerned about Manchester United need not worry – Moyes is the perfect manager for Manchester United, post Ferguson.
Moyes is something of a clone of the current boss of Manchester United. He is one of the few managers in world football who possesses all three of the key ingredients for success – man-management skills, ability to spot a top player and tactical brilliance. On a shoe-string budget Moyes has managed not only to make Everton competitive but also attractive to watch.
Moyes would represent a seemless evolution from the glory days of Sir Alex. He’s as obsessive as he is meticulous about his job. He commands the respect even of the biggest egos and he is now ripe for a top job. Some may say that he represents a gamble as he is all but untested in The Champions League. But this guy is the safest pair of hands that you could find. He will be at the helm for at least 10 years and will simply safeguard and proliferate the legacy that the remarkable Sir Alex Ferguson has created at every level of the club.
For our money it’s a given that David Moyes will become the next manager of Manchester United – and a very good one at that.

What a joke of an article. why would one of the most coveted managerial roles in the world be given to someone who has not won a single trophy. With managers like Pep Guardiola rumored to be interested, its really unthinkable that some one like moyes would get the job

Mourinho will succeed Ferguson.
Moyes had never won anything, has no CL experience beyond the qualifying round, and isn’t a big enough name for Utd.
Plus whoever succeeds Alex needs major charisma. Any shouts for Moyes just ignores basic logic and is simply bandwagon jumping.
