Reported Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea target Mario Gotze has signed for Bayern Munich for £32m. Despite being in the thick of a Champions League semi final, Bayern Munich are already focusing on next season and Gotze will become the first piece in the jigsaw for the incoming Bayern manager Pep Guardiola.
The timing of the announcement seems strange with both the German clubs involved in massive games this week but, having seen Gotze up close and personal this season, Bayern obviously feel that they need to move for the player now.
Manchester United and Arsenal have long been linked with the brilliant young midfielder and it was easy to see where he might fit in at Manchester United. While Arsenal would also have clearly been interested in the player Manchester United seemed more able to meet the fees required to bring him to England. And with a sizeable hole in the midfield at Old Trafford Gotze seemed like an excellent option. Clearly Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United have other targets in mind.
So, Manchester United and Arsenal fans, do you think that the managers should have allowed this player to escape from their clutches? Or is Gotze overrated at a reported fee of £32M?
