Reports today suggest that Arsenal will invest heavily in the transfer market this summer. With a reported ‘war chest’ of £70m, reinforcements are projected at The Emirates and one of the first signings, may be some time midfield target, Etienne Capoue. Arsenal reportedly made a £10m bid for the Toulouse starlet in the winter window but, such is his potential, that bid was rejected out of hand.
But with Abou Diaby constantly injured and the Arsenal midfield looking heavy on flair but light on muscle, the gunners do need a defensive midfielder. The Express suggests that Arsene Wenger will go straight back in for Capoue when the next window opens.
Capoue doesn’t score many goals but has been lauded for consistently brilliant performances in the engine room this season. He joined the club in 2007 and became a first team regular whilst still a teenager. At 24, he has now played 168 times for the club. Any French anchor man coming to Arsenal is going to have deal with the legacy of the wonderful Patrick Viera and, while most successors have failed miserably to fill Viera’s boots, this lad has all the qualities to be a success at Arsenal. Let’s have a look at him in action shall we? Yes, let’s!
