Why Daniel Levy will refuse to sell Spurs players to Man United

Tottenham is home to several in-demand players, but other clubs must be wary of dealing with Daniel Levy.

The Spurs chairman is notoriously tough when it comes to negotiations, and anyone pursuing the club’s key players will first have to get past him.

The Sun report that Manchester United, in particular, have been blackballed by Levy because he still bears a grudge from his previous dealings with them.

Levy’s issues with the Red Devils date back to the Sir Alex Ferguson era, which is far removed from the current set-up at Old Trafford.

However, it’s thought that the Spurs board are still bitter about Dimitar Berbatov’s transfer to United in 2008. The Bulgarian was supposed to be on his way to Manchester City, but Ferguson picked him up and took him to the United training ground.

Two years before that, Michael Carrick followed the same path, and Spurs were suspicious that United had approached him illegally.

And in 2013, there were more tensions surrounding Zeki Fryers; the two clubs couldn’t agree a fee, he left United for a year to go to Standard Liege, and then signed for Tottenham.

This is all being brought up again because United are reportedly monitoring Eric Dier and Danny Rose.

It seems inconceivable that Levy would sanction a move to a top Premier League rival anyway, but given his personal history with United, it’s going to be even more difficult to get any potential deals over the line.
