Tottenham have been handing out contracts left, right, and centre in recent weeks.
It’s just reward for what has been a hugely impressive couple of years from Mauricio Pochettino’s men, and Spurs are desperate to keep the current group of players together.
Dele Alli has now followed in the footsteps of Christian Eriksen, Harry Winks and Eric Dier in committing his future to the club, signing on until 2022, as per Spurs’ official website.
Having signed from MK Dons last summer in a £5million deal, the 20-year-old has made a huge impact, earning a call-up to England’s senior side in the process.
It’s little surprise that Spurs have awarded him a contract which will see him earn £55,000 a week – though, in truth, they may have acted a little too soon.
Alli had a point to prove last season, but this year, he is yet to reproduce that form, other than with a goal against Stoke. Against Monaco, the starlet looked a little arrogant, and Spurs wouldn’t have been blamed if they had waited for him to achieve a little more before handing him his deal.
All the same, chairman Daniel Levy will be well aware that Alli is going to be targeted by other clubs in the transfer window, so he has had no choice but to tie him down as soon as possible. And when Spurs are back firing on all cylinders, Alli surely will be too.
