Arsenal have seen a bid rejected by Lyon for striker Alexandre Lacazette.
The Gunners offered the Ligue 1 side £29.4million, according to the Daily Mail, but they have been knocked back after Lyon described him as “irreplaceable”.
There had been talk in France that Arsenal had actually offered closer to £40million, but that has now been denied.
Lacazette was widely believed to be a target for West Ham earlier this summer, but as he is only willing to move to a club in the Champions League, Arsenal would appear a more logical destination.
Regardless of the player’s wishes, it looks like Lyon aren’t budging on this one.
Arsenal fans are understandably disappointed with their dealings in the transfer market so far. Granit Xhaka was an early signing who offered hope that Arsene Wenger was serious about taking his squad to the next level, but since then, the only arrivals have been Rob Holding from Bolton and unheard of Japanese striker Takuma Asano.
Lacazette got 21 goals last season, so he’s certainly the calibre of striker Arsenal should be thinking about bringing in, but like Gonzalo Higuain – another of Arsenal’s targets who has just signed for Juventus – the Gunners may end up looking back at this summer thinking what might have been.
