Liverpool left-back Brad Smith is expected to move to Bournemouth today after the two clubs agreed a £3million deal, according to the Bournemouth Echo.
The Australia international departed the Reds’ pre-season training camp in America to fly back to England for a medical.
Smith made just 10 appearances last season, but it still somewhat surprising that Jurgen Klopp is happy to let him go.
Not only are Liverpool in the midst of a defensive crisis – which, admittedly, is mainly affecting the centre of their defence – left-back is hardly their strongest position.
Klopp has been trying to bring in a replacement for the luckless Alberto Moreno but has so far been unable to do so.
The much-anticipated move for Germany international Jonas Hector doesn’t seem to have materialised, so it seems strange that Klopp would allow Moreno’s main cover to move to another Premier League club – and especially for such a low fee.
Smith becomes the second player this summer to make the switch from Liverpool to Bournemouth after Jordan Ibe completed a £15million record transfer for the Cherries.
