There are two huge stories making the rounds in relation to Manchester United this morning. Let’s get the nasty bit out of the way first. The Times says that PSG are interested in Wayne Rooney and could make a £40m bid for the England striker in the summer. The news outlet goes on to state that PSG are actively looking for a partner for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and that they have identified Rooney as the perfect solution. That’s the story but, in reality, we think it’s far fetched. Unless Manchester United want to sell I can’t see Rooney wanting to play in Paris. He’s a home boy – as long as he is wanted at Old Trafford and as long as the team is competitive he will be a Manchester United man – case closed.
The other big story relates to extremely well trodden ground. The Daily Mail reports that Manchester United had scouts in Portugal at the weekend to watch James Rodriguez turn out for Porto against Bebe’s Rio Ave. The Colombian star, 21, has been a rumoured target for Manchester United since he was about 2 and the speculation shows no sign of abating. The wing wizard is a natural left-footer and has been on fire at Porto scoring nearly a goal every two games from the wide areas. The problem, says the Mail, is that Porto have apparently slapped a value of £36m on his head. Manchester United were thought to be willing only to pay around £20m.
This story won’t go away which leads us to believe that there is some substance to it. As for the Rooney tale, unless United decide to sell then it simply ain’t gonna happen. So all you Manchester United fans can continue to enjoy your breakfast and count down the hours to the Real Madrid game.
