This one has been a real merry-go-round of a potential transfer.
It had seemed as if Manchester United were leading the race for the signature of the Barcelona forward Pedro.
But then other clubs reportedly showed an interest and Manchester United’s intentions weren’t so clear.
But Spanish media outlet Marca reports today that Manchester United and Barcelona are now in negotiations for the transfer of the World Cup winner. They say:
Barcelona and Manchester United are in talks over a deal for Pedro. The player looks like he will get his way and the remarks by Josep María Bartomeu seem to have done nothing to change his mind, after the president said that there would be no more players in or out of the squad.
In a really good portent of the player’s quality, Barcelona seem as if they don’t want him to leave the club this summer.
Luis Enrique is not keen to see the winger go either.
But Manchester United are apparently intent on signing him and the player’s will to leave the club for more minutes in the first team should see a deal go through imminently.
Manchester United play Barcelona on Saturday in America and the geographical proximity of the clubs right now should further facilitate the deal.
It’s fanciful to suggest that Pedro will be turning out for Manchester United for this game. But his potential arrival will further bolster a squad which has already been seriously strengthened with celebrated internationals this summer.
At 27, Pedro has won the lot – The World Cup and two European Championships with Spain. The Champions League and La Liga at club level with Barcelona.
He would get into most sides in Europe and Manchester United will be a stronger eleven with him in it.
The one down side is that Pedro is viewed by many as a replacement for Angel di Maria, who looks increasingly likely to leave the club this summer.
Let’s see Pedro in action.
Manchester United fans: a great buy?
