There can be few more experienced players for this role than German international Bastian Schweinsteiger. At 30 years of age he has played 111 times for his nation and scored a handy 23 goals. At club level he’s won pretty much everything during his 500 appearances and 67 goals for Bayern Munchen – many United fans will remember his goal at Old Trafford a few years back which put Manchester United out of the tournament.
So, if he is available, then Manchester United could be getting the bargain of the summer. The Mirror reports today:

With Carrick and Schweinsteiger both able to marshall the defence next season Manchester United would have a lot more depth to their squad as the periodic injuries to the Englishman last season put paid to any sort of title challenge.
