Tim Sherwood this week described his star forward Christian Benteke as the best striker in Europe. The Belgian has had a torrid time with injury over the last year but he is back and firing once more, leading Sherwood to say:
“I don’t know if there’s a better striker in Europe right now. He’s the best,” said Sherwood.
With Louis van Gaal bemoaning his side’s lack of killer instinct in front of goal, is Benteke the man for the job at Manchester United?
Well, at 24, Benteke is something of a balletic bulldozer of a footballer. He is so strong that he was last knocked off the ball in the late nineties as a toddler. But he also has such a lovely, deft touch for a big man that he seems perfect for the top end of The Premier League. He is not dissimilar in style to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba and this is why he will surely draw huge interest this summer.
Sherwood doesn’t mince his words and has made it clear that…
“Benteke is going nowhere in the summer, no one can afford him,”
…and Manchester United will surely start Wayne Rooney up top next season, which means that Benteke wouldn’t be a first choice starter straight away. In this respect he may prefer a move to a club where he can expect football every week – Arsenal or Liverpool perhaps?
But we have little doubt that he could score 30 goals a season for a Manchester United side which has already reinforced its wide areas with the brilliant Memphis Depay this summer. With this sort of service Benteke would bang them in for fun at United.
We wouldn’t rule out a United move for the lad. Manchester United fans: would he make the grade at Old Trafford?
