If latest reports are anything to hang your hat on then Manchester City will spend the summer concentrating on the search for a replacment for Yaya Toure.
We have so far thrown Koke and Ross Barkley into the hat for the role as creative talisman after Toure. But perhaps an even more fitting replacement would be Paul Pogba of Juventus. And how Manchester City would enjoy rubbing salt into their neighbours wounds by signing a player who United let go for peanuts in 2012.
The football bible that is The Daily Star, suggests that Manchester City will pull out all the stops to sign Paul Pogba this summer:
According to Spanish sources, the reigning Premier League champions are willing to part with both Samir Nasri and Edin Dzeko to sign the young French talent.
It does appear that, with the new FFP regulations biting, Manchester City’s millions are less relevant. They must balance the books and that means a bit of wheeler-dealing, akin to what Jose Mourinho has been doing at the similarly sized Chelsea.
Dzeko has confounded his critics by consistently scoring goals for Manchester City. But his all round game has been questioned and he may be disposable should the opportunity to sign Pogba present itself. Similarly, Samir Nasri had a couple of excellent seasons after initially struggling to settle. But he too may find himself a victim of the inevitable streamlining.
Given the chance we most definitely swap Nasri and Dzeko for Pogba. While those Manchester City stars are replaceable, by far their biggest problem is how to deal with the eventual departure of The King. As Manchester United found out with Paul Scholes, players from the top drawer are virtually impossible to replace and while Pogba has his work cut out to fill Toure’s boots, he’s one of the few footballers who could successfully do it.
Let’s see Poggers in action. Manchester City fans: a good value swap?
