It’s a name that has been doing the rounds, in relation to Manchester United signings, for some time.
But The Guardian’s Jamie Jackson has revived the story this week and it’s one that should have Manchester United fans licking their lips:
Manchester United are considering a move for Aymeric Laporte, although the Athletic Bilbao defender’s €42m (£30.3m) buyout clause could prove a stumbling block.
Laporte is from the same club as Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera and anyone who followed that transfer will know that Bilbao are unique in terms of player recruitment. They typically only use local talent which makes signing their players even more difficult.
But this guy is well worth the aggro. He has the sort of brute strength that we have seen from Manchester City’s Eliaquim Mangala, but this Frenchman has much better technique to go with the brawn.
Still only 20 but he exudes composure and maturity on the park and it’s difficult to imagine him not doing the business for Manchester United.
If Louis van Gaal can get this lad then it’s a no-brainer – Manchester United would once again have a ball player in the defence, which has been sorely missed since the sublime Rio left the club.
Let’s see Laporte in action. Manchester United fans: Laporte or Hummels, if you could have only one?
