A Manchester United XI vs Leicester with 4 at the back – plus injury updates

Time to kick on

Shocking performance against Cambridge. There appeared to be no urgency in the team at all, until the last ten minutes of the game, when some Manchester United players at least made forward forays.

After a really good run before Christmas, the spate of draws and the defeat against Southampton appear to have really affected the confidence again. Manchester United were even petrified to take chances against a fourth tier side on Friday.

It simply has to improve against a plucky Leicester City team at Old Trafford this Saturday (kick of 15:00 local time).

Manchester United need to stick with 4 at the back and get the ball forward more quickly. Better movement is needed from the midfielders and, when the likes of Rooney, Carrick and Mata receive the ball, they need to turn, get their heads up and make a forward pass, instead of the easy sideways and backward passes that are currently ruining the performances.

We would love to see Louis employ a 4-2-3-1 for once. Let Falcao roam up top with Rooney in behind. And get some genuine pace on the the flanks with Di Maria left and Valencia right. At least give it a try to see how the team responds to this formation.

Top managers should always be trying new things to see what works best. A 4-2-3-1 might just be the answer to the current malaise at United.

Manchester United are without Ashley Young and possibly Jonny Evans, with Chris Smalling likely to undergo a fitness test prior to any decision about his available for this weekend.

So here is our side, with Fellaini sacrificed for the more creative passing instincts of Ander Herrera in a game which United should be bossing.
