Let’s face it, we were spoilt for choice when making this decision. Manchester United seemed petrified to go forward in The FA Cup on Friday night – and this was against fourth tier opposition.
It’s difficult to imagine that Manchester United had world renowned stars on the pitch – the most expensive player in The Premier League (Angel Di Maria) and one of the most highly regarded strikers in the world in Radamel Falcao.
The Manchester United team simply didn’t click and were too scared to run at the opposition. Instead they stuck with the laboured possession tactics of Louis van Gaal and passed the ball in front of the opposition without any sort of penetration.
But we have to say that, by far and away the worst player in a Manchester Untied shirt last night was Phil Jones. Was he out late the night before the match? Because he looked, for all the world, as if he had a banging hangover.
We lost count of the amount of times he simply passed the ball straight to the opposition in what amounted to completely unforced errors
We have always championed the career of Phil Jones. We felt that, when he finally shook off the niggling injuries which have so far blighted his time at Manchester United, he would become a top player for the club, and possibly even become a long term leader and captain for the team.
But, based on this performance alone, he wouldn’t even get into the Cambridge side. It was an absolute disgrace and we only hope that the lad went to the manager after the game to apologise.
Manchester United fans: do you think that anyone played worse than the utterly terrible Phil Jones?
