After seemingly buying every top number ten of tomorrow Chelsea are now reportedly coveting wingers. Chelsea’s start to the season has been fairly solid, if unspectacular. The 8 year old Oscar has scored a couple of absolute spankers to illustrate his remarkable potential. Goodness only knows how good he will be by the time he hits 13. Eden Hazard is, for our money, the best arrival in The Premier League since Cristiano Ronaldo and has flickered brightly. Alas, after a promising start, Fernando Torres once more has all the insecurity of a girl who sits in front of the mirror asking , ‘am I beautiful?’
He hasn’t profited so far from Oscar and Hazard in the way that many expected. Perhaps he needs some genuine width in the side to offer better, more simple service.
The Times, and others, have suggested that Chelsea may be in for Barcelona production line serial number 734,985 – otherwise known as Gerard Deulofeu Lázaro. He’s 18. He’s about 6ft tall. And he’s got a scoring ratio of 1 in 3 for Barcelona B, plus goals at every youth international level for Spain.
One would imagine that if he is Chelsea class then he won’t be released by Barca without a fight. But don’t be at all surprised if Chelsea look to add width, aswell as a striker in the winter window.
