We think that a good barometer of the quality of your summer signings is to look at whether the player acquired would go straight into the first team or simply be a decent squad member.
In the last few years Manchester United seem to have signed players that you would put into the latter category.
But this summer things have changed massively as Louis van Gaal has brought in three players who will be majestic for Manchester United.
Luke Shaw has years ahead of him and hasn’t yet proved himself in a Manchester United shirt. But we think he will become a legend for the club.
Angel di Maria also looks to have shaken off the inconsistencies of his early career and is ready to give his best years to the club.
But the most amazing piece of business that Manchester United have done is to bring Radamel Falcao to the club. What a shock signing, but what a massive boost and signal of intent.
It is no exaggeration to suggest that Manchester United now have a new star player. Despite a wealth of attacking talents, on form Falcao is now the best player that the club has.
Because if this guy can stay fit he’s going to take The Premier League by storm.
Some teams are lucky enough to have great goalscorers and others have scorers of great goals. Manchester United have somehow landed a player who does both.
Looking at his YouTube highlights is like watching a video of the best goals ever scored.
Falcao is an unbelievable footballer. Explosive, powerful, really quick and with one of the best eyes for goal that you will witness in any era. Perhaps his greatest weapon is that he is almost as good with his left as he is with his right foot. Defenders can’t really show this lad onto his ‘weak’ side.
If his fitness does prevail then expect him to score at least 25 goals for United this season. He’s the sort of player who could go on a 5 game run of scoring a brace each time. He’s just so deadly.
And if the club can hold onto him beyond the year-long loan then Manchester United will be looking at the latter stages of The Champions League next season without a doubt.
Questions marks remain over the back line but Real Madrid and Barcelona fans don’t generally concern themselves too much with the paucity of quality in their defences because their teams spend most of the time in the opposition half.
If Manchester United fans were given the option of signing a world-class forward or a world-class defender most would take the former, despite holes at the back. This club is made for attacking and LvG had already delivered on a grand scale.
Let’s take a look at the brilliant Colombian action. Manchester United fans: are you excited about this weekend’s game against QPR?
