With many of the world’s best players on show at The World Cup there will always be some debate about the star performer at the tournament.
Surveying performances so far you to have to look at Thomas Muller’s hat-trick for Germany, Luis Suarez’s brilliant performance against England and Neymar’s all round menace.
But, for soccersweep, the standout performer by some distance has been Holland forward Arjen Robben.
At 30 years of age he is absolutely on top of his game and seems to have finally overcome the niggling injuries that blighted his career at Chelsea. You’d have to say that, on current form, only Messi, Ronaldo and Suarez are ahead of him in the individual world rankings.
The idea of Robben linking up with Robin van Persie at Manchester United next season is absolutely frightening for the rest of The Premier League.
He has previously stated that he will be staying in Germany but that has done nothing to arrest the speculation surrounding move to Manchester United, which has intensified again of late. And with LvG now at the helm the player may be persuaded to leave a club that may have peaked and join one on the up.
The Express reported last week that Manchester United are lining up a £40m bid for the player:
MANCHESTER UNITED are preparing a £40m bid to try and lure Arjen Robben away from Bayern Munich this summer.
Robben has been one of the star performers so far at the World Cup, and reports in Germany suggest that Louis Van Gaal is now convinced he needs the 30-year-old at Manchester United.
40 million quid may seem a little outlandish considering his age but bookmakers Skybet now have Manchester United as favourites to sign the player, should he leave the German champions this summer, at odds of 3/1.
Manchester United fans will be praying that the bookies have got it right this time because a link up with Van Persie and Robben, with Rooney just behind, could immediately return Manchester United to the top table of European football.
Let’s look at this superb forward in action. Manchester United fans: is 40 million squid too much to pay for a 30 year old?
