Manchester United manager David Moyes’s assertion that Manchester United need to spend perhaps overlooks the shortcomings in his managerial abilities – he should be getting more out of his squad of champions. This group of players is certainly better than seventh position in the league.
But there is little doubt that a few additions could also make a massive difference to Manchester United next season. Depending on which formation they go for next season we believe that these four players can breath life into Manchester United, with or without Moyes.
Luke Shaw
He’s a must isn’t he? Chelsea will put up a huge battle for the man who apparently supported the West Londoners as a kid. But, in the absence of a player anywhere near as good, Manchester United need to outbid their rivals for Shaw. The huge cost would be entirely offset by the 15 years of service that the 18 year old would offer.
Lucas Moura
Unfortunately Manchester United have too many areas of the park that need to be improved to afford both Lucas Moura and Andros Townsend. It’s a toss up between the two. But Moura may be more gettable by the summer and would offer genuine penetration and guile, either from the flank or in a narrower formation.
Ross Barkley
Again, it would be nice to get both Barkley and Kroos. But we favour The Englishman because of his age and better physique. Barkley could become one of the best in the world – he has so much potential that he will surely join one of the world’s elite in the next year or so.
At 20, he can propel a team to success for a decade.
Eliaquim Mangala
He does appear to be the best young centre back on the market right now. He’s extremely well built yet light on his feet and great in tight situations. Dominant in the air and lightning quick – he’s got all the qualities you need in a modern centre back. If Mangala proves out of reach ten perhaps a cheeky bid for Monaco’s Geoffrey Kondogbia, who may turn out even better.
