Manchester United are set to extend Juan Mata’s contract, with the Spanish international’s current deal expiring at the end of the season.

The Mirror
report that the former Chelsea man intends to stay at Old Trafford, having snubbed the opportunity to move to the Chinese Super League.

Mata’s representatives are said to have been approached about a switch to the Far East which would have earned him a huge pay rise.

The playmaker, who has scored 28 goals in 118 league games for the Red Devils since joining in 2014, has to compete with the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan for a spot in the starting XI and he could find games even harder to come by if Jose Mourinho brings in long-term target Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid next summer.

The 29-year-old has started all but one of United’s Premier League games so far this season and is likely to face Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Ander Herrera is also expected to be given a new deal, per the same source.
