It has also left Wenger in a difficult position, with the Gunners boss seemingly reluctant to sign top strikers because he always had Welbeck as an option when fit.
The same source claims that Galatasaray have the funds to pay the 26-year-old decent money, but that he is going to be hesitant because of the ongoing political problems in Turkey.
Should a deal for Welbeck fail to materialise, Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen – who has scored just once in the Premier League from open play – is being looked at as another option.
