Liverpool are looking to bring in a Euro 2016 winner as they talk to Sporting Lisbon about the possibility of signing William Carvalho.
That’s according to A Bola, who suggest that the Portugal star would like to swap the Primeira Liga for one of Europe’s top leagues.
Yet, the Reds face competition from La Liga’s Atletico Madrid for the 24-year-old, who may leave either this month or in the summer, per the Sun.
West Brom have already had a bid rejected, which is neither here nor there, but Sporting are resigned to losing Carvalho to a top club soon.
The defensive midfielder, rated at around £28million, could be an ideal replacement for Lucas Leiva at Anfield, as the Brazilian’s future is still uncertain.
It would signify another step up in class for Jurgen Klopp’s squad, as the Liverpool boss is still concerned about his side’s defending having watched them concede three at home to Swansea during the weekend’s defeat.
Carvalho has long been linked with the Premier League, but if A Bola are correct and Sporting are actually speaking with Liverpool, this could be the closest he’s come to a move yet.
