Manchester City are ready to offer midfielder Fernandinho a bumper new deal to prevent him leaving in the summer, reports the Daily Mail.
Incredibly, despite the huge role the Brazilian has been playing in the heart of the midfield this season, he’s been allowed to run down his contract – and has just a year left before it runs out.
City can’t afford to lose such a valuable player for free, but it appears it was Fernandinho himself who was stalling.
It’s understood that because he was unsure whether he would play a big part under Pep Guardiola, he was waiting for the season to get underway before committing his future.
As all City fans will have noticed, Guardiola values him hugely and has relied heavily on the 31-year-old.
City are now set to offer him a two-year extension. In January, he will be allowed to speak to foreign clubs about a summer move, so they are hoping he will put pen to paper before then.
