Manchester United fans can breathe a huge sigh of relief.
David de Gea has been hinting he would stay at the club for a while, but now, according to the Express, he’s virtually certain to stay because Real Madrid have announced they won’t be buying him.
Madrid had the option to sign him next season, but President Florentino Perez has confirmed he won’t be exercising that right.
Real may be thinking twice as de Gea is embroiled in a scandal in his native Spain, with a court case ongoing.
It’s likely they wouldn’t have wanted him regardless, however, as they are thought to be happy with current number one Keylor Navas, and there is no point signing a replacement for the sake of it.
De Gea was always going to be more likely to stay under Jose Mourinho too, as he can now look forward to a long-term project at the club.
The goalkeeper is considered one of the best in the world in his position, but now that Madrid aren’t interested in acquiring him, there should be no threat of him leaving for quite some time.
