Liverpool fans hoping for a reunion with Pepe Reina are going to be disappointed.
The Napoli goalkeeper’s father has quashed the rumours as speculation, insisting his son is happy in Italy.
According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Reina senior said:
“Liverpool? There is nothing, just rumours. The great affection that Pepe has for the Napoli is known.”
Whether Reds boss Jurgen Klopp would even be interested in Reina is a hard one to call.
The resounding feeling at Anfield has been that Simon Mignolet just isn’t cutting it between the sticks, so Klopp could be in the market for a replacement.
However, he has already signed Loris Karius from Mainz 05, so it seems unlikely that he would spend any more of his summer budget on yet another stopper.
Karius may only be 22 years old, but Klopp has shown this season that he isn’t afraid to put his faith in up-and-coming players.
All that suggests Reina isn’t the man he’s looking for as Liverpool continue their busy transfer window.
