ARSENAL’S teen sensation Alex Iwobi has agreed a bumper new long-term with the club deal keeping him at the Emirates until 2021.
The Gunners have handed the exciting 19-year-old a five-year contract worth in the region of £30,000 a week.
Iwobi only signed his previous deal, understood to be worth up to £10,000-a-week, last October. That agreement was due to run until 2019.
But he has made enormous strides since then and has become a regular in the Arsenal first team since the turn of the year, starting four of Arsenal’s last five games and scoring twice.
Arsene Wenger has been delighted with the Nigerian’s progress but also praised the character of the academy product.
The Gunners boss said: ”I am pleased with Alex Iwobi’s talent but even more with his attitude and his willingness to learn and to contribute with his teamwork.
“The fans have seen many good players over the years and they know straight away when a player has something special, so they acknowledge that.
“You cannot cheat people. They’ve seen how quickly he’s improved and how well he’s played. It’s surprising how quickly he has integrated into our game.
“He’s worked with us since the start of the season and he has grown, gained confidence and when he came in he had an impact straight away. I didn’t expect that level of efficiency or impact on the scoresheet.”
