Arsenal’s “ambition” disconnect with £159.4million in the bank

ARSENAL have released their latest accounts – for the six months ending November 30, 2015 – and the figures revealed the club have a very healthy £159.4million in the bank.

However, far from impressing Gunners fans, the news will no doubt lead to more frustration and anger following last month’s transfer window in which manager Arsene Wenger once again refused to dip into the market for a top-class striker.

The Frenchman’s stubbornness continues to be a sore point with supporters who see it as the major reason the club continues to struggle for silverware – the FA Cup aside.

Even though Arsenal were outplayed by Barcelona in their Champions League Round of 16 first leg, they may well have had something to take to Spain if they’d had someone up front who could have taken even one of several good chances they created.

The Sun reports: “Chairman Sir Chips Keswick says Arsenal’s accounts reflect a strength that can provide a platform for further success on the field.

He said: “This has been an unpredictable Premier League season thus far. What is important is that we are in contention and I am sure we have the resources and ability within the squad to sustain a strong challenge.

“We continue to see robust growth around our commercial revenues and build our support globally through our marketing and media channels.

“The result for the period reflects the overall stability we have within the squad which, in my view, is a positive factor for the club.”

Overall stability? Surely Arsenal are in a strong enough financial position to offer their fans more than ‘overall stability’.

Where is the real ambition? Top four finishes and qualification from the group stages of the Champions League are all well and good, but a club like Arsenal should be aiming for more.

Supporters are rightly fed up of seeing the club making handsome profits and being linked with big name strikers, only for Wenger to refuse to come to the party.

It’s cost them in past seasons and it may very well prove their undoing this campaign.

Gunners fans, will Wenger’s reluctance to open the purse strings see Arsenal’s bid for the title come up short again?

Please Wenger, we need this FA cup to be ours this season. If you do not, you will be fired tomorrow.
