Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is keen to bring Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand to Old Trafford according to tabloid reports in the latest news cycle.
The Daily Star opines:
LOUIS VAN GAAL wants to raid Southampton for Ryan Bertrand before deadline day.
The powerful 26-year-old has enjoyed a fine time of it since he moved permanently from Chelsea in 2015.
But his career effectively ended at Stamford Bridge much earlier than that as he went out to no less than 7 clubs on loan before his permanent move in the summer.
The left-footer has played 260 club games and scored 5 goals. He is a top athlete and a solid performer who offers a quality delivery into the box and has found a level of consistency in his mid-twenties.
While he would be an excellent addition to the Manchester United squad we do question whether he would want to move to a club which has so many talented left-backs already.
Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo are long-term absentees but will figure much more prominently next season and Daley Blind has also arguably played his best football for the club on the left.
Manchester United may be more likely to get a deal over the line for a youngster with promise or a player coming to the end of his career rather than a man in his playing pomp and who is already at an excellent club.
Let’s see some of Bertrand’s better moments.
