Let’s face it. It looks for all the world that Pep Guardiola will be managing in England next season.
He could, in all likelihood, take his pick from Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, and perhaps even Arsenal.
His record speaks for itself and the current Bayern team are a wonderful example of his work. They have a great chance of a third domestic title in a row and Champions League success this season.
But many believe that he will go to Manchester City and team up with his old Barcelona colleagues who now reside in the upper tiers of management at Eastlands.
Which is even more reason that Ed Woodward needs to act now and get Jose Mourinho on board at Manchester United this week.
Louis van Gaal is unlikely to turn the current Manchester United mess around and, even if he did, he will leave at the end of next season, leaving United in another transitional period while Pep cleans up on trophies next year and beyond. Not good enough.
Much better to give Jose a 6 month head start on his old foe.
In that time he can make a few key signings and instil his methods on the squad. So by the time Pep comes to England the United project under Mourinho will be well underway. To the extent that Mourinho and his boys can stay one step ahead of Pep’s team.
There is no guarantee that Pep will settle in England straight away. But, eventually, he will get the hang of things.
Meanwhile Ed Woodward can save his Manchester United career and make one irrefutably great decision for the club. Get Mourinho in now and let the silverware flow.
