Manchester United have bought well this summer but their need, in terms of any more transfers, is simple.
They need more pace and power.
It is what has been lacking from many of the recent Manchester United signings and there is an ever greater need for it in The Premier League.
Down the road at Anfield, players like Milner, Benteke and Clyne have been added.
With them comes the sort of speed and physical strength which always goes down well in England – indeed, it’s now crucial.
Manchester United have bought some pace over the last year with Luke Shaw, Memphis Depay and Marcos Rojo offering it.
Matteo Darmian also has decent pace.
But Manchester United’s most pacy player, Angel di Maria, is on his way and his possible replacement, Pedro, isn’t the quickest.
As for the likes of Daley Blind, Marouane Fellaini, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera and Bastian Schweinsteiger they have great virtues, but groundspeed can’t be counted amongst them.
So we believe that any further purchases this summer need to have pace written all over them.
Manchester United need more of it otherwise they could get left behind as other teams such as City, Arsenal and Chelsea motor away with their jet-heeled first elevens.
