All this talk about Thomas Muller to Manchester United for 100m Euros has played havoc with my bowels.
The purse strings have obviously been loosened considerably since Fergie left the hot seat and we are generally of the opinion that Manchester United should pay whatever it takes to sign the best.
But 100m for the Machiavellian Muller? A player who definitely has the stats in his favour but certainly doesn’t have the wow factor expected of a 100m man? No thanks mate. I’d rather roll Ralph Milne out of retirement.
The prices in modern football are completely crazy and Manchester United would be doing the football world no favours at all if they splurged 9 figures on a very capable but essentially unremarkable athlete.
Ronaldo on the other hand? Yes please Louis. We will definitely have a piece of that action.
The well loved Manchester Evening News reports that the sublime Portuguese is back on the radar:
Manchester United trying to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid
M.E.N. Sport understands United are working on what could be a new club-record deal to bring Ronaldo back to Manchester six years after he joined Real Madrid for a world record £80m.
If Angel di Maria leaves for PSG, as many expect, this summer, Manchester United will have even more money sloshing around in their account and Louis van Gaal couldn’t do any better than to bring Ronaldo back to Manchester United.
This is a guy whose stats look like those of a prolific player from the 60s, when stars like Gerd Muller were simply too good for the fag smoking defenders in his path.
Because Ronnie has almost got more goals than he’s played games.
61 in 55 last year for Real Madrid. 313 in 300 games since he joined the Spanish giant. And an almost unbelievable 436 goals in 623 club games his career. And he still in his pomp in terms of age – CR7 isn’t 31 until February and looks fitter and stronger than ever.
Ronnie loves Manchester United. United loves Ronnie and, under the new management of Rafa ‘The Facts’ Benitez, he seems a little disenchanted at Real Madrid.
Manchester United will of course have their work cut out to re-sign one of the greatest players of all time.
But surely they should be focusing their efforts on signing a player who can amlmost defy physics rather than one who is very good but massively overpriced.
Let’s see the boy in action. Manchester United fans: can you see it happening or is it just newspaper selling nonsense?
