This one is quite interesting.
Manchester United completed a flurry of transfer activity just before they departed for their pre-season tour of America.
But, in an interesting insight into how targeted their transfer activity was, reports in the Italian press have stated that Manchester United made a 25m bid for another defensive midfielder before they signed Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.
Corriere dello Sport writes today:
Lazio, rejected United’s offer of 25 million for Biglia
Manchester had offered 25 million for the Argentinian, then he took Schweinsteiger
The fact that the trail has seemingly since gone cold would suggest that the players they signed were their first choices.
But in a further reflection of Manchester United’s new transfer policy, Biglia is yet another veteran of the game.
At 29 he’s been pretty much a regular in the Argentine side since he made his debut in 2011.
He spent 7 good years at Anderlecht in Belgium between 2006 and 2013 before moving to Lazio where he has played very well.
In that time the defensive midfielder has played 53 times in Serie A and scored 5 league goals.
One would imagine that, with two top midfielders recruited over the last fortnight, Manchester United’s interest will have ended there.
But, with Louis van Gaal regularly flummoxing everyone in the transfer market, we wouldn’t completely rule out another move.
Let’s see the lad in action.
