Breakthrough summer? One top deal in the bag and another world class addition now available – reports

Van Persie - Surely worth a nibble by Wenger if he's available

Hit the ball early

Of course we always get our hopes up that this stage of the summer when the carousel of top names is being circulated in front of our salivating little faces.

Arsenal have had some great summers of speculation but haven’t done too many game changing deals of late – Sanchez was the obvious exception but he did nothing to stop the long term rot at the back.

But, with news of Petr Cech’s possible arrival, perhaps we are about to see a breakthrough summer for Arsenal where they finally address the real issue of a soft spine running through the side.

If they do agree the Cech deal, and also sign a defensive midfielder along the lines of Schneiderlin or Kondogbia, then a top striker will complete the jigsaw.

Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott are all good players but none would be expected to make a key intervention when there is literally no room for manouevre in a Champions League semi. Arsenal still need a world class number 9.

To this end, reports have again surfaced about the potential availability of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema. He is precisely the type that Arsenal needs and The Daily Star reckons that The Gunners have been given the green light to sign the lad as his club are prepared to sell.

Arsenal CLEAR to sign Karim Benzema as Real Madrid are forced to sell

ARSENAL have been given the green light to sign Karim Benzema this summer.

And the Manchester Evening news says:

Real Madrid look set to let Karim Benzema leave the Bernabeu

The suggestion is that Real need to raise some cash to buy Pogba and Aguero this summer.

If he’s available Arsene Wenger shouldn’t pause for thought because Arsenal won’t be the only interested party. At 27 this guy is world class and a perfect addition for Arsenal. He’s an unerring and ice cold marksman who doesn’t usually need a second chance to hit the back of the net.

Let’s see him in action.
