Manchester United: Robin van Persie – Keep or Sell?

Manchester United's new kit

Tough one

Robin van Persie took a big gamble when he moved to Manchester United and it’s debatable whether it paid off. He won the title in his first season at the club of course and had no reason to believe that Fergie would leave.

But since the departure of the great man the niggling injuries have returned and the deadly marksman hasn’t been so evident.

Van Persie will be disappointed by his last two seasons at Manchester United an, on form, we don’t think that Louis sees him as a first choice starter. If RvP wants serious game time, as the main man, then he will have to seek new pastures – he’s 32 in August and his career is already in its autumn years.

But he would still be a good squad member for Manchester United. A heavyweight replacement who could handle the pressure if he was thrown into a huge game after a last minute injury to Wayne Rooney. For that reason most Manchester United fans will be content if he stays.

FINAL WORD: If Manchester United spend significant money on another striker this summer then they will offload RvP and count on Wilson, Wazza and the new man. But, if Louis decides to concentrate the kitty on other areas of the team, expect RvP to see out his contract at United and to be an important squad member, if not a starter. But he is one huge wages for a substitute. SELL
