We regularly opine that there is seldom smoke without fire in the transfer market and this one seems inevitable. After denying on Twitter last week that he has agreed to join Manchester United in the summer, more reports have now surfaced which suggest that it’s only a matter of time before United confirm the signing of Mats Hummels. The Mirror states:
Manchester United are closing in on Mats Hummels.
The Borussia Dortmund defender is understood to have told his Germany teammates during the international break that a summer move to Old Trafford is on the verge of being agreed.
Manchester United’s defensive duo of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have shown real promise together at the back of late. But too many mistakes have been made at the back this season to simply hope that the problems will just go away. And Manchester United still lack a ball ball player at the back since the peerless Rio Ferdinand ended his decade at the club last summer.
With Jonny Evans possibly on his way after an apocalyptically bad campaign, Manchester United will need a dominant and composed figure in the defence and who better than a player who makes football look as easy as Hummels?
If Manchester United can sign the German then they will be doing extremely good business.
Let’s see the lad in action. Manchester United fans: should the club sign him regardless of how high the fee goes?
