PICTURE: Manchester United’s Best XI vs Liverpool after Louis update

Finally Settled

Sunday should prove whether Manchester United’s performance against Tottenham last weekend is going to become the rule under Louis van Gaal, or the exception to it.

Everything clicked on the day and it will surely give LvG food for thought ahead of the Liverpool match – a crunch clash for a top four spot.

Angel di Maria has been declared fit which makes Louis’s decision even more difficult. Juan Mata played out of his skin on the right for Manchester United against Spurs and he also brought balance to a side which has lacked it for most of the season.

But Di Maria’s pace could prove crucial in a match which Manchester United should get ample opportunity to play on the counter. So can LvG squeeze both in? It may mean dropping Herrera or Fellaini and both were excellent last weekend – furthermore, such tinkering could unsettle that fragile balance which has been found. But we think both Di Maria and Mata should start this one so we would leave LvG favourite Ashley Young out.

With Blind playing so well at left-back against Spurs we expect him to start there again. And Antonio Valencia seems to be the preferred choice at right back these days.

So here is our best XI for the big one. Manchester United fans: let’s have your thoughts.
