Top football nations hope that their country can throw up a few genuine world stars in each generation. The last great England player to explode onto the scene was Wayne Rooney back in 2004.
But the names that excite the fans most in this new vintage are without doubt Raheem Sterling and Ross Barkley. Sterling was close to going out on loan before having an incredible season in 2013/14 and so nearly won a league title to cap it all. And Ross Barkley could perhaps be described as The English Koke. But if we had to pick between Koke and Barkley we would take the Englishman as he adds that air of unpredictability to his more obvious and wide ranging talents.
Barcelona legend Xavi has perhaps whetted the appetite of fans who can’t wait for that transfer ban to be lifted by suggesting that both are good enough to play for his club.
Xavi said: “Yes, why not? I think that they could. They have incredible physical capabilities and they are good technically.”
Having seen them play many times we strongly believe they aren;t only good enough to play at the top in Spain but that they both fit the Barcelona style perfectly. Barkley’s technique is immaculate and Sterling has the pace and ball control to frighten the life out of most defenders.
They would be truly exciting signings for Barcelona.
