Tottenham: First teamer off? Who replaces him?

Offski?

A report in The Guardian today picks up on the recent rumour that Emmanuel Adebayor may be moving to QPR in January.

Realistically this is a step down for the journeyman striker. So if he is indeed off, it would be because he’s surplus to requirements rather than because he wants to improve his circumstances.

Having been the most consistent striker at Tottenham for the last 18 months, and with so little obvious cover, it seems like a strange idea on the surface.

But Adebayor is certainly not the player he was at Arsenal and won’t be the main man at Tottenham long-term. Spurs will surely look to invest in more quality up top, with rumours persistently rumbling on about Jay Rodriguez being lined up once he has proven his fitness after his anterior cruciate ligament injury.

But Tottenham may also promote from within. While many Tottenham fans are losing patience with Roberto Soldado, he still has the quality to come good. And the really exciting development is the progress made by Harry Kane this term. He’s hit 4 goals in 8 games to become Tottenham’s most prolific striker this season. He started brightly last season scoring in 3 consecutive Premier League games and has kicked on again in this campaign.

He’s just 21 but already a strapping lad of 6ft 2in. He will fill out further over the next couple of years but doesn’t look out of his depth physically and, by January, he could have permanently consigned Adebayor to the peripheries of the squad.

Adebayor looks like he’s on the way out and Tottenham need reinforcements in that area. But the rise to prominence of Kane means that Spurs are far from threadbare up top. In Kane, they have a young, hungry player and a natural finisher.

Tottenham fans: Can Kane cut it as the top striker at Spurs?

Must admit it’s frustrating seeing Ade brilliant one week & so disinterested the next two or three, so perhaps it’s good time for him to go.
love to see an English striker coming to the fore.. brilliant for spurs & England if Rodriguez & Kane can strike up a decent partnership.. however I’d still like to see Huntleaar at the lane come January, his experience would be excellent for the young English strikers to learn from.
