Having seemingly shunned the big guns such as Toni Kroos and Cesc Fabregas, it seems increasingly possible that new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal could turn to his Holland squad for new recruits after The World Cup. So Manchester United fans will be watching with an even greater sense of fascination.
Some are concerned that van Gaal won’t have enough time in the transfer market after overseeing the Dutch national squad during a crucial window for Manchester United.
But, if he is to transfer several Holland players to Manchester United, then this could actually be the perfect way to properly assess their suitability for the club at close quarters before making moves in July. You would have to say that noone would be better placed to sign Dutch players right now than van Gaal. If Holland reach the latter stages of the competition with this young group then the clamour for them to join Manchester United will only intensify.
Instead of buying accomplished but expensive stars these young hopefuls could become the next Manchester United vintage. Dutch players have traditionally done well at Manchester United and many of these reported targets are in their early 20s with their whole careers ahead of them and everything to prove. So whatever consequences there may be in going Dutch you would imagine that these guys would not lack for hunger.
Louis van Gaal loves to bring youngsters through he ranks and his youthful Holland World Cup squad adds weight to this theory. Players like Bruno Indi Martins, Daryl Janmaat, Kevin Strootman, Jordy Clasie and Daley Blind have all been linked to Manchester United this summer and while some fans of the club are hoping for stellar, high profile acquisitions this summer, this route could be just as exciting as a new young nucleus of talent develops at Manchester United.
Obviously, even if LvG did buy five Dutch players their tender age would mean that they would be integrated slowly rather than all at once. But this is how Manchester United could line up come August if LvG goes totally Dutch! We’d be amazed if none of them joined Manchester United this summer.
