Louis van Gaal has apparently turned down the opportunity to sign Tony Kroos from Bayern Munchen this summer.
While many believe that the German international would be the ideal signing for the hub of the Manchester United midfield it seems that Van Gaal may instead go Dutch in pursuit of excellence for his new club.
The Daily Mail says that he’s looking at two Holland defenders for starters:
Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has instructed the club to make midfield and defence their priority in their recruitment drive.
Feyenoord centre-back Bruno Martins Indi is one while his teammate Daryl Janmaat, the right-back, has also been watched.
Beyond the defence it doesn’t take a genius to see that Manchester United need to strengthen their midfield as a matter of urgency.
Kevin Strootman has been linked to Manchester United in the past and he seems to be a close ally of the new Manchester United manager. The same report says:
A deal for Roma’s Kevin Strootman remains on the cards once he proves he is recuperating well from his knee ligament injury.
Is a like-for-like alternative to Kroos and we can easily imagine coming into Manchester United this summer.
And we reported earlier in the week that Jordy Clasie is favourite with certain bookmakers to become a Manchester United player before the end of the summer.
With Arjen Robben also linked to the club and Robin Van Persie already a stalwart in the first eleven Manchester United could resemble the Dutch national team by the start of next season with six Dutch players potentially lining up for The Reds.
It’s a mouthwatering prospect as Holland internationals have generally done very well at Manchester United.
Edwin van der Saar, Jaap Stam and Ruud van Nistelrooy are three of the best Manchester United players in modern times. In general Dutch players seem to adapt very well to the rigours of The Premier League.
Let’s see JanMaat in action.
