The rumours mills have opined this morning that Chelsea could be involved in a massive swap deal over the summer.
It is obvious that they will look to assemble a new look strike force in the summer and the main change will be to add a high profile centre forward to bang in the goals. Fernando Torres was bought to do just that for the huge fee of £50 million.
But as we all know it hasn’t worked out so well with the Spaniard who seems a shadow of the player that terrorised the Premier League in his days at Liverpool. The Guardian suggests that his personal nightmare at Chelsea may soon be over:
He’ll be off back to alma mater Atlético Madrid, where he can gambol in a carefree fashion, or mope around with a face on in his dotage, it’s up to him. Diego Costa will move the other way to Chelsea as part of the deal.
You have to say that it makes perfect sense. If any team can help Torres rediscover his form it is surely Athletico – the team where he made his name.
As for Diego Costa, he does tick most of the boxes for Chelsea. He’s rugged, can hold up play well, has great technique and is one of Europe’s most accurate finishers. We have said before that, if Costa does have a weakness, it’s that he is not the quickest player in the world. But neither was Didier Drogba and he was the best Chelsea striker that we can remember.
Let’s see Costa in action. Chelsea fans – would you be happy with this deal?
