Arsenal are one of those clubs who reportedly have a lot of money to spend in the summer – the much quoted sum is £70 million – whether that figure has been fanned into the press by the Arsenal hierarchy to appease the fans in the short term remains to be seen. But, apparently, £25 million of that is about to be spent on Stevan Jovetic of Fiorentina.
The 23-year-old is also coveted by Manchester City and Juventus. But, fearful of losing out on one of his main targets, Arsene Wenger wants to steal a march on the competition and get the player in early, according to The Daily Mail.
‘Arsenal have taken a big step towards signing top summer transfer target Stevan Jovetic after opening talks with Fiorentina’
The striker from Montenegro isn’t exactly a prolific goalscorer but with 34 goals in 111 appearances for Fiorentina and 10 in 26 for his country he still knows where the onion bag is. And Wenger obviously sees something in him apart from goals that can add to the overall quality of the first team.
Jovetic it is a silky and tidy player who likes to be central to the game and can bring others into play beautifully.
The same report suggests that Wenger will also try to bring Hamburg keeper Rene Adler to Arsenal for around £8m.
