Have Manchester United found the new Viera?

Manchester United fans would have been dismayed at the departure, on transfer deadline day, of Ravel Morrison. While a few would have been glad to see the back of the talented yet troubled teenager, most felt the loss of a player who could eventually have stepped into the shoes of the mighty Paul Scholes.

But the Old Trafford faithful will be buoyed to see the other big starlet at Manchester United, Paul Pogba, looking more likely to stay at United with each passing day. He got a few minutes of first team action against Stoke on Tuesday and, although The Potters were off form and tired by this stage of the night, Pogba showed great potential.

Of Pogba’s outstanding cameo, Sir Alex Ferguson was quoted on BBC Radio 5 live as saying,

“Pogba did very well. He’s got great talent and has a tremendous physique for a young boy. You can’t believe he’s 18….”

“We are negotiating his contract at the moment. It’s a bit complicated as he’s changed his agent a couple of times. The boy wants to stay, I think that’s obvious.”

Surging forward with power and a deftness of touch, the young Frenchman hit two lovely crosses and generally looked completely at home in Manchester United’s midfield. He’s good in the air, attack minded, athletic and an outstanding passer of the ball. He was involved in everything when he came on.  One wonders why, at a time when Manchester United have such problems in midfield, Pogba hasn’t been given more minutes on the pitch of late. But on the evidence of Tuesday night, it won’t be long before Manchester United fans see a lot more of the young Frenchman who, in terms of playing style, looks very much like the heir apparent to Patrick Viera.

Agree fully! Pogba is way more skilled and more intelligent with his passing, quicker, attack minded and just generally more skilled!

pogba is a more offensive player compd 2 vieira. only reason he gets compared to him is because hes french, hes big and hes black other than that they barely have any similarities.

Pogba looks good, feel sad about morrison leaving, but we still need to sign a world class midfielder in the summer . And another defender, we are not like city, we only need to buy 1or2 players every year. Hope de gea is not playing on Sunday, hope he never plays again this season.

Progba is class new yaya toure and veira but dont think utd dont need another CM id say martinez CM and joa Mortinho would make utd a top club again. id have them 2 and anderson carrick in CM with flecter coming back and cleverley eventually gibsons gone and morrison on the way, id make nani a striker as valencia and young will do the wings with park as a fill in..also berba hernadez and rooney look off form instead buying striker nani plays for portugal there and im sure he’d net alot and the back page paper will be him and valencia hitting the headlines we have a good club but lacking direct shots nani would give them all of that

pogba if he were in Arsenal, definitely Arse Venger would give him more chance. I think Sir Alex should give him the same. because he is a great player, we see how he is good enough to United in Stoke game. we can even survive without signing other midfielder for the next season If he have more chance this season.

    long live to utd!!

A twenty minute stint against Stoke is one thing, yes he looked good, I too was impressed, but before we get too carried away lets see how he does for 90 minutes against Chelsea Liverpool or City, thats when we will know if he can make the step up.
