QPR – best deal of summer?

Manchester United have had a seriously turbulent year since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

But the biggest mistake, amidst a hapless campaign, may have been made after Fergie’s successor David Moyes was sacked.

Because the club announced recently that Rio Ferdinand will be leaving Manchester United at the end of the season. His contract is up and the club have decided not to give the highly experienced defender another deal.

With so much transition at Manchester United we think that they should have held on to Rio.

But Manchester United’s loss could be QPR’s gain. Because recent reports suggest that Ferdinand may be keen to join up with Harry Redknapp after he took the club back to The Premier League at the first time of asking.

The Guardian said this week:

Rio Ferdinand is seriously considering a move to Queens Park Rangers, with the 35-year-old a free agent after being released by Manchester United.

Ferdinand is attracted to working again under Harry Redknapp, who gave him his senior debut in 1996 when the QPR manager was in charge of West Ham United.

We have always maintained that Ferdinand is the best centre back to ever grace The Premier League.

His first touch is better than many a top level striker and seeing him flummox the opposition before carrying the ball out of defence was an artform in itself – almost as enjoyable as seeing a goal. He truly was a Rolls-Royce of a defender.

At 35 he looks to have put most of his more recent injury problems behind him and we think he can give at least another year of top service to a Premier League club.

Let’s see the lad in action. QPR fans: would you like to bring Rio to the club?

I highly doubt Rio is coming, and if he is, I don’t want him. We are building for a future, not a retirement home. Hence why all these blokes who helped us go up are getting released at the beginning of the summer.
