Newcastle linked with another highly potent forward

The Journal reports that Newcastle are looking to bring in Red Bull Salzburg forward to Tyneside.

The 28 year old began his career at Espanyol where he made his way through the youth team into the senior squad following a number of loan spells at clubs such as Almeria. However, his goal scoring record didn’t impress during this time.

He moved to Barcelona in 2009, playing for their Barcelona B side, scoring 54 goals in 79 league appearances before moving to Red Bull Salzburg. He was made captain last season and has helped the team secure the league and cup titles in both of his seasons at the club, finding the net an impressive 60 times in only 72 games.

Newcastle are in need of a striker following the departure of long time servant Shola Ameobi and the return of Loic Remy to his parent club QPR following his loan spell in the North East. They are left with Papiss Cisse as their only established striker, and the forward has had a tough time in front of goal following ex- strike partner Demba Ba’s move to Chelsea.

The Toon have been linked with a number of strikers over the past few weeks, including Ayoze Perez, but have so far yet to get any signings over the line.
However, according to the same source a move for Ayoze is imminent as Tenerife are hoping to recoup some money this summer rather than wait until next season when the striker can leave for free as he is out of contract.

The Journal believes that a fee of £1.5 million would be enough to secure his services.

The signing of Ayoze and Soriano would add quality and depth to a Newcastle squad that disappointed last season. Despite finishing safely in The Premier League, their run of defeats and lacklustre performances worried fans and pundits alike.
