Manchester United ready for massive double swoop – report
Speculation persists that Manchester United are about to do a deal for Porto winger James Rodriguez. Most rumours are of course wildly innacurate, but this one doesn’t seem to want to lie down. No matter how many times you smash it around the chops, it just keeps getting back up.
The latest suggestion is that Porto will take the terminally misfiring Nani in a swap deal with Rodriguez as early as Christmas. Nani seems to be doing a Berbatov at Old Trafford these days. He has let all of the criticism and rumour get on top of him – he looks like a dead man walking at Old Trafford. Whether he will go to Porto in return for the highly rated Columbian remains to be seen. But Manchester United really need a natural left footer to give them the sort of balance that has been lacking since Ryan Giggs ran out of jet fuel. Ashley Young? Pah! Shinji Kagawa? Maybe, but then the formation would have to adapt. With Rodriguez in the side, Manchester United would have two of the most frightening wingers in Europe.
The second rumour of the day surrounds man of the moment Victor Wanyama. He’s another who has been linked with Manchester United for some time and the hype has only increased with his recent displays, particularly against Barcelona in the Champions League. At 21 he’s already a wardrobe of a man but has the technique of a much smaller dude. He scores goals and dominates midfields. He could well be the final piece in Manchester United’s jigsaw if he can be prized away from Celtic. Manager Neil Lennon reckons that he won’t sell for less than £25m but Fergie will reportedly look to snare the Kenyan for half of that.
Such is the level of interest in the player, we think that Fergie may even try for Wanyama during the winter window. Watch this, window-sized space for updates.
