The Mirror claims that Fulham’s player of the season Clint Dempsey is interesting the Liverpool top brass and that they may make a move in the summer.
Liverpool Chairman Tom Werner:
“We never talk publicly about our transfer targets, however, any team would be lucky to have Clint Dempsey playing in their squad.”
Hold on, isn’t he denying talking publicly about a transfer target, whilst talking about a transfer target in public?
Anyway, although this speculation may not be an instantly exciting prospect to some, Dempsey is arguably one of the most under rated players in the Premier League. The 29 year old American has composure, touch and a great empathy with the game. He would certainly add quality to most top flight squads. With 22 goals this season he plays more as a forward than a midfielder but can operate in either role and, additionally, as a wide man.
He offers versatility and teeth in attack and wouldn’t necessarily break the bank. He would obviously perceive Liverpool as a step up and might see a move to Anfield as an exciting last major contract in his career. Could he be the new, straighter haired, hopefully slightly better, American Dirk Kuyt?
